About

Hi there! I’m Shaibal, a recent Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Toronto with 16 months of software engineering internship experience. I’m interested in backend and full-stack work where reliability, performance, and product usability meet. My experience spans authentication services, developer tools, data pipelines, AI-assisted interfaces, and performance-sensitive systems built with Rust, TypeScript, Python, and C++. I also enjoy frontend work and have built React and Flutter interfaces for internal tools and AI-assisted applications.

I like tracing problems across system boundaries, from APIs and storage to the interfaces people use, and validating decisions through tests, profiling, and measurable results. I’m looking for a team where I can own meaningful work, learn from experienced engineers, and ship software used in real operations.

Outside of work, you can usually find me running, playing soccer, reading fantasy novels, or experimenting with game development.

Zebra Technologies

Scope. Built authentication services, developer tooling, and internal interfaces for autonomous-robot operations.

  • Built Rust authentication and authorization services that secured API access for more than 200 autonomous robots.
  • Developed TypeScript APIs for API keys, JWTs, robot configuration data, and attribute-based access control with a custom policy parser.
  • Built internal React and Flutter interfaces for managing secrets, access policies, and robot configurations.
  • Created a Rust integration test suite with 99% code coverage across authentication flows, API behavior, and service communication.

Inokta

Co-developed an AI workspace that transforms uploaded documents into an editable model of entities, attributes, and relationships.

Contribution. Built the core document ingestion, semantic retrieval, editable knowledge graph, and real-time AI interaction workflows alongside two collaborators.

  • Represented extracted knowledge as editable entities and relationships instead of treating model output as final prose.
  • Kept conversations session-scoped and streamed AI responses and tool activity over WebSockets.
  • Combined PDF extraction, table detection, chunking, embeddings, and ChromaDB semantic search in one ingestion pipeline.

Status. Private collaborative project completed in June 2026.

Searchington

Built a web search engine with a recursive crawler, HTML extraction, an inverted index, relevance metrics, and AWS hosting.

Contribution. Built the crawler, index, query path, persistence, hosting, and cache behavior.

  • Cached repeated query results in Redis instead of sending every request through the slower SQLite path.
  • Stored crawler and index data in SQLite to keep the project compact and inspectable.

Evidence. In local query-loading tests, Redis caching reduced response time by more than 70% compared with reading the same results from SQLite.

ChromaMap

Built a C++ geographic information system software with OpenStreetMap data, routing algorithms, and a performance-focused rendering pipeline.

Contribution. Implemented routing heuristics and helped profile and improve map navigation and rendering behavior.

  • Added level-of-detail tiling so navigation rendered only the map detail needed for the current view.
  • Used Dijkstra and A* heuristics for routing and travelling-salesman work.
  • Used multithreading, stack traces, and flame graphs to find and reduce rendering bottlenecks.

Evidence. Timed before-and-after navigation tests showed significantly faster browsing after level-of-detail tiling.
